First, the expectation of departure

As the morning train pulled out of the station, I sat against the window, full of anticipation. The smell of coffee in the carriage and the fresh air outside the window are intertwined, making people relaxed and happy. As the train approached London, my excitement grew stronger.

Imagining the towering figure of Big Ben, I seem to have heard its melodious bells reverberating in my ears. This trip is not only to enjoy the beauty of Big Ben, but also to explore the story behind it and feel the charm of the city.

First impression of London

When the train finally arrived at London station, I couldn’t wait to jump off the carriage and set foot in this charming city. On both sides of the street, the ancient buildings are scattered, every brick, every tile seems to tell the story of London’s millennium.

I walked the streets, feeling the smell of the city. The River Thames is sparkling and the boats on the river are relaxed. Big Ben looms in the distance, as if beckoning to me.

The grandeur and legend of Big Ben

Finally came to the foot of Big Ben, I was shocked by its majestic momentum. The clock tower rose to the sky, its golden face glinting in the sun. I walked into the inside of the bell tower and felt a solemn and sacred atmosphere.

The docents told us the history and production process of Big Ben, and every detail revealed the exquisite skills and endless ingenuity of the craftsmen. Listening to the narrations of the narrators, I felt as if I had traveled to that distant era and witnessed the birth of Big Ben.

Standing under the bell tower, I quietly listened to the melodious sound of the bells. It seemed to travel through time and space, taking me into a mysterious and solemn world. I imagined how many important moments the tower had witnessed over the years and how many people it had accompanied for unforgettable moments.

The encounter with the little girl

While I was immersed in the legend of Big Ben, a little girl came running up. She looked up at Big Ben with a twinkle of curiosity and longing in her eyes. She asked me, “Big Brother, do you know the story of Big Ben?” I smiled and shook my head, but felt a rush to know more.

So, the little girl and I started a journey of exploration about Big Ben. We visited the exhibition hall and admired the precious photographs and models. Under the guidance of the docents, we gradually unveiled the mystery of Big Ben.

In the process of exploring, the little girl’s innocence and curiosity infected me. Her questions, one after another, gave me a deeper understanding of Big Ben. I also told her about my feelings and expectations for the city, and we shared the joy of traveling with each other.

A Walk by the Thames

After visiting the clock tower, I walked with the little girl along the River Thames. The river is sparkling and the cruise boat is relaxed. We enjoyed the beautiful view of London, chatted and enjoyed the rare peace and comfort.

The little girl told me about her longing and longing for Big Ben, and I also shared with her my feelings and experiences about traveling. We have made wonderful memories and formed a deep friendship at the river.

Big Ben at night

When night falls, the chimes of Big Ben ring again. The melodious bell echoed in the night sky, as if to draw a perfect end to our journey. I said goodbye to the little girl and stood alone by the river, looking out at the great bell tower.

Big Ben is illuminated by lights at night. It is not only a bell tower, but also the symbol and patron saint of London. I was deeply moved by its beauty and solemnity, and I felt lucky to be here in person.

Thoughts on the way home

Big Ben, also known as the Elizabeth Tower, is one of London’s iconic buildings and one of the most famous clock towers in the world. It is located on the banks of the Thames in London, England, and is an accessory clock tower to the Palace of Westminster, the Parliament building of the United Kingdom. This magnificent building has won worldwide acclaim for its unique design style and outstanding technical achievements.

Big Ben dates back to the 19th century. It was originally built as part of the redevelopment of the new Houses of Parliament, construction of which began in 1843 and took nearly ten years to complete. Designer Edward Powell fully embodies the technological spirit and artistic concept of the Industrial Revolution at that time, and skillfully integrates Gothic architecture and neoclassical architectural elements. The pointed arched dome structure of the bell tower makes it rise to the sky while maintaining the elegant lines, while the exquisite relief shows the spiritual connotation of classical architecture.

The clock face of Big Ben is 55 meters high and is made up of four faces, each of which is made of 312 pieces of white glass. Through the glass, the hour and minute hands are clearly visible. The clock face will also glow when Parliament is in session. Its bells ring every hour, while smaller bells work every fifteen minutes to bring melodious music to Londoners and visitors alike.

However, Big Ben’s history has not been smooth. During World War II, in May 1941, German Nazi bombers attacked London and the clock tower of Big Ben was severely damaged. After several years of restoration work, the clock was finally restored to normal operation in 1949. In addition, in 1857, the first crack appeared in the 16-ton clock, but with its sophisticated double-tripod gravity escapement, Big Ben successfully withstood various challenges and continued to tell the time for the citizens of London.

Today, Big Ben has become a symbol of British history and culture. Every visitor to the UK will come here to take a photo and feel the dignity and majesty of this ancient building. Although the interior of Big Ben is only accessible to British residents by appointment, foreign visitors can still enjoy its beautiful exterior when they exit Westminster Underground Station. At night, Big Ben looks more solemn under the light, adding a unique charm to the night scene of London.

London’s Big Ben is not only an architectural marvel, but also a symbol of British history and culture. It has witnessed the great changes in London and carried the dreams and hopes of countless people. Whether admiring its magnificent appearance or listening to the melodious bells, Big Ben will leave a deep impression on visitors.

The design and construction of this building not only reflects the exquisite engineering technology, but also integrates the perfect art of culture and architecture. Big Ben, with its Gothic architectural style and huge clock face, shows the British people’s respect for and inheritance of traditional culture.
